Dogwood Festival Committee announces headliner
Wednesday night via the festival’s Facebook page, the Winchester Dogwood Festival Steering Committee announced the band that would be playing the main stage Saturday night, May 3 at the 2014 International Dogwood Festival will be the Charlie Daniels Band.
The Steering Committee is excited about this year’s head-lining act, and from the re-sponse on the festival’s Face-book page, it seems as if eve-ryone else is excited about the announcement too.
“Are you serious?” one person asked. “I’ve gotta be there!”
The Charlie Daniels Band is internationally known for its unique country rock music and hits such as “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” and “Long Haired Country Boy.” The band’s front man Charlie Daniels has also become a country and western music icon.
According to the Encyclo-pedia of Southern Culture, “Few individuals have symbol-ized the South in popular cul-ture as directly and indelibly as Charlie Daniels.”
In addition to great musi-cal entertainment, Winches-ter’s International Dogwood Festival offers a great atmos-phere with several craft and food vendors and tons of ac-tivities for families.
People throughout the re-gion and from states near and far have come to anticipate the annual three-day festival, which takes place in Down-town Winchester.
This year’s festival will be another that music fans will not want to miss. The public is reminded to mark their calen-dars for the event, taking place May 2-4 on the Winchester Square.
