Elementary basketball recap
Elementary basketball was in full swing this past Thursday night with several of the county’s youth showing off their skills on the hard wood.
Cowan Elementary hosted games between Cowan taking on Clark Memorial and Broadview facing Sewanee.
Clark Memorial’s boys’ and girls’ teams swept Cowan in two close games.
In the girls’ contest, Clark Memorial won by a final score of 15-10.
Beizh Holloway led all scorers with six points for Clark Memorial. She was aided by her teammates Madison Partin scoring five points, and Chyenna Luttrell adding four points toward the victory.
Ashtyn Danley led Cowan with four points in the close loss.
Clark Memorial and Cowan’s boys’ teams were locked in the closest game of the evening, which Clark Memorial won 26-24.
Blade Green led all scorers with 17 points for Cowan in the loss.
Clark Memorial’s scoring was spread out between seven players with Jase Rampy leading the way with his eight-point performance.
Broadview Elementary won both decisions over Sewanee.
Broadview’s girls’ team defeated Sewanee 13-6.
Rylan Wolkonowski led all scorers for Broadview with eight points.
In the boys’ game, Broadview scored 32 points on its way to a decisive 32-15 victory.
Will Jolley was the leading Broadview scorer with 11 points while Nathan King’s seven points led Sewanee.
Townsend gymnasium held Rock Creek vs. Huntland, and Decherd vs. North Lake.
Huntland Elementary held the edge over Rock Creek through two games.
In the highest combined scoring girls’ game of the night, Huntland defeated Rock Creek 22-13.
The game’s leading scorer came off the losing team with Rock Creek’s Kenna Hale scored nine points.
Brooklyn Morris led all Huntland scorers with eight points.
As for the boys’ game, Huntland ran away with it, 30-6. Preston Williams scored nine points, and Kolbi Stewart added eight, both for Huntland.
Decherd Elementary School celebrated a successful night, winning both the girls’ and boys’ games over North Lake.
Decherd’s girls were led by Summer Hill’s eight points to defeat North Lake, 14-11. Morgan Hall scored six points for North Lake in the loss.
Combining for a total of 53 points, the boys game between Decherd and North Lake was the highest scoring of the night.
Decherd came away victorious 31-22, largely due to Theron Sons. Sons scored the night’s highest point total, finishing with 19 points.
Dakota Waggoner scored 10 points and Devon Shockley had eight points for North Lake in the loss.
