MCCALLIE, Alberta, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. On Sept. 8, 1931, the late Thomas Albert and Dora Frances Clark welcomed to the world their daughter, Dora Alberta Clark. At an early age, she met and married Jackie McCallie and with this union they had four children. Mrs. McCallie worked and retired after 30 years of service from AT&T. Deciding that retirement was not for her, she opened Friends Daycare where she and Jackie took care of several children for over 25 years. Mrs. McCallie was a faithful and devoted member of the Decherd First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie McCallie; daughter, Joy McCallie Tallant; parents, Thomas and Dora Clark; mother and father–in-law, Daniel and Roma McCallie; siblings, Ruby Huber, Monzie Clark, Exton Clark and Charles Clark. Mrs. McCallie is survived by her daughter, Martha McCallie of Chattanooga; sons, Daniel (Tammy) McCallie of Chattanooga and Richard (Karen) McCallie of Winchester; grandchildren, J.M Stricklin, Craig (Tanya) McCallie, Haley (Danny) Hartman, Cassie McCallie and Cody Hoosier; great-grandchildren, Oscar Stricklin, Camille McCallie and Levi McCallie; brother-in-law, Teddy (Linda) McCallie Sr of Winchester; sister-in-law, Sarah Clark of Winchester; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. McCallie were conducted on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family was held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Watson-North Funeral Home in Winchester. MASSEY, Betty Jean, age 84 of Tullahoma, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Life Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry and Sophia Edith Zimmerman Stevens; husband, Levoy Massey; brothers, Charles Henry Stevens and James Harold Stevens; and a sister, Marjorie Ann Bass. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie (Bobby) Baker of Tullahoma; sisters, Sandra Faye Stevens of Winchester and Mary Joyce Hicks of Tullahoma; grandson, Bobby Joe Baker, Jr.; and great-grandsons, Justin Blake Baker and Johnathan Gage Baker. Visitation with the family was held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Elbert Smith officiating. CLYDE HILL, JR.
HILL, Clyde, Jr. was born on Oct. 26, 1940, and died on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Doris Elder Hill; two sons, Kevin (Sharon) Hill of Belvidere with one granddaughter, Miranda and Rodney (Katie) Hill of Decherd with one grandson, Fischer; and two brothers, Darrell (Carolyn) Hill and Fred (Mary Jean) Hill of Oak Grove. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Clyde Hill, Sr.; mother, Pearl Gipson Hill; grandparents, Jim and Mary Jane Gipson and Sadie and Henry Hill. Clyde was employed by the Tennessee State Highway Department, Cowan Stone Company, Cleveland Pneumatic and was self-employed as a fishing guide since he was 18-years-old. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He and Doris had square danced since 1978 with the Tullahoma, Manchester and Estill Springs square dance clubs. Clyde served as road commissioner for 34 years with the Franklin County Highway Dept. (Sept 1, 1980 to present) and served as chairman since 1994. He was very instrumental in bringing the Franklin County Highway Department into the 20th Century. His influence with the state legislators helped improve road conditions, not only in Franklin County, but the entire state of Tennessee. He had a deep passion for his workers and will be deeply missed. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Decherd. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Decherd with Bro. Donald Gregory and Bro. Jerry Lofton Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with military honors bestowed. Serving as pallbearers will be: Joe Binkley, Dr. Tom Smith, Parker Smith, Jimmy Cole, King Dixon, Jerry Marion, Charlie Waller and Johnny Woodall. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Eddie Elder, R.L. Powell, Jack Bise, Donnie Fulks, Bobby Clark, Chuck Tipps, Joe David McBee, Bill Hatchett, Charlie Burns, and Clarence Bryson.
