Student arrested for assault, possession of weapon on campus

A Franklin County High School student was taken from the school and placed in police custody on Wednesday afternoon after making threats and admitting to bringing a weapon to school.

Dakota Micheal Vaughan, 18, of 2349 Vernon Ridge Road, Belvidere, is now being charged with assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

According to a report by School Resource Officer Emily Farris of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Vaughan allegedly admitted to having brought a knife to the school. He allegedly also told another student he was going to bring a gun to the school and “go crazy.”

Farris’ report further mentions that Vaughn allegedly had threatened to assault his shop teacher.

Vaughan is scheduled to appear in Franklin County General Sessions Court on April 7.
