Annual Memorial Day service to be held
Area residents are urged to attend the annual Memorial Day service on Monday at 10 a.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum Gardens on Cowan highway in Winchester.
The public is urged to attend the annual Memorial Day Service on Monday at 10 a.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum located on Cowan Highway in Winchester. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 71, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1893 and F.C. American Legion Post 44 sponsor the event.
DAV Chapter 71 Commander Mike Foster will serve as master of ceremonies. Speakers will include Larry Williams, adjutant DAV and retired Army sergeant major and Al Rogers retired Army lieutenant colonel.
Foster will read the list of Franklin County war dead and Bobby Clark, Franklin County Veterans service officer and a Vietnam War veteran, will play Taps.
Father Bill Midgett of Christ the King Anglican Church will give the invocation and benediction. Gina Sherrill will be singing the National Anthem and God Bless the USA.
Moore-Cortner Funeral Home is providing tents grounds and water. Cooks Market Restaurant will be providing beverages.
The Federation of Republic Women and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Sewanee are serving cookies, tea and refreshments.

“Please take time out from your picnics and celebrations for one hour to remember just what this holiday was set aside for, to honor and show respect for our soldiers who gave their all for our freedom,” Foster said.
