Incase the field and pitching work wasn’t enough for Decherd, the team hit the ball pretty well.
Decherd scored all 10 of its runs in just four innings. Three runs came in the first, one in the second, four more in the third, then two runs in the fourth inning.
Despite the tough loss, Winchester has a chance to end its season on a positive note this evening taking on Estill Springs for third place.
Estill Springs fought hard but ran out of time against Huntland.
With Huntland runners on second and third base and two out, Estill was close to escaping a tough situation.
A few pitches later, that changed as a gap shot scored the two runs for Huntland.
Scoring three total runs in the first inning, Huntland held control early and didn’t relinquish it for the remainder of the game.
Estill showed some fight in the fifth inning scoring two runs, but it was too little too late as Huntland walked away with the victory 5-2.
Tonight the consolation game between Winchester and Estill Springs will be played at 5:30 p.m., and will be subsequently followed by the championship game between Decherd and Huntland at 7:30 p.m.
All games will be played at the Babe Ruth baseball field in Decherd.
Tonight will be the last time these players will play on their teams for the season, but may not be the end for everybody as All-Star play will begin next week.
