Cowan’s Christmas Parade will be here sooner than most will realize, getting residents and visitors in a festive holiday spirit as shown here during one of the past parades.
Cowan’s Christmas Market and the 58th Annual Cowan Christmas Parade is exactly four weeks away.
The 53rd annual Cowan Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. with lineup at South Middle School.
The theme is “A Gift that Keeps on Giving.”
This year’s grand marshal will be Gene Black, a lifelong resident of Cowan and supporter of the Cowan Christmas Parade. He was an active member of the Cowan Lions Club, a group that helped keep the Christmas Parade alive for many years.
The parade will feature marching bands, colorful floats and the Shriners Tin Lizzie Unit, among many other entries from antique cars to teams of mules, wagons, tractors and more.
A candy drive is underway to make sure children receive plenty of goodies to be tossed out during the parade. Donations of bags of unopened, individually wrapped candy would be greatly appreciated. Drop off locations are at Cowan City Hall and WZYX “The Eagle” Radio Station.
The Christmas Market will open on Friday, Dec. 1 from 3:30-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a full capacity of vendors with a wide variety of products and food booths at Monterey Station, 104 Monterey St. in Cowan. Santa also arrives on Friday night to greet visitors to the Market.
The parade lineup starts at South Middle School and proceeds along Cumberland Street to Cowan Elementary School.
The deadline to submit parade entry forms is Friday, Dec. 1, at noon. Call (931) 273-5827 or visit
