Broadview Elementary School celebrates ‘Read Across America’ week

Every year, schools across the country participate in Read Across America week and this year the week’s festivities ended with the celebration of Dr.Seuss’ birthday.

Broadview Elementary School students and teachers dedicated each day of the week to a Dr. Seuss book complete with Seussian decorations and themed-dress up days.

The kids participated in full force with “Whoville” hair-do’s and crazy socks for Fox in Socks. Showing up in pajamas to dream big, Friday honored the classic book packed with life lessons, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

On Friday, the Broadview Parents Organization provided their elementary kids with a extra special treat – a chance to meet Winchester’s biggest community leaders from all different backgrounds and career paths such as Sheriff Tim Fuller, artisan Tracie Boswell, engineer Casey Boswell, and Sgt. First Class Adam Davis.

Elementary eyes looked on as each speaker, like pastors Michael and Amber Clark, farmer Richard Atkinson and banker Jennifer Johnson, read Oh, The Places You’ll Go! to their prospective classrooms.

After the final page was read, eager ears listened in to hear speakers such as radio host Al Tipps, former professional athlete Eric Taylor, and Chancellor Jeff Stewart’s own stories of success and more importantly, the mountains they moved in order to achieve their dreams.

Speakers pathologist Karla Garcia, chef Rachel Youngblood, and TN State Representative David Alexander brought photo booklets of miscroscopic finds, Seussian cupcakes, and Dr. Seuss bookmarks to their classes. Asking all the questions they could fit in, the kids wrapped up their experiences by writing and recording their own dreams and now consider many new possibilities for their future-selves.

Students, teachers, parents, and guest speakers know that every dream is worth following despite any mountainous obstacle…98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed. To get involved with this school’s upcoming events and to see more photos of this fantastic week, please visit @BroadviewBPO on Facebook.
