The Huntland Hornets fell to the Columbia Academy Bulldogs 71-47 at home Monday in a sectional matchup as they were eliminated from tournament play and their season came to an end.
The Hornets played a close game through halftime, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half and maintained control of the game from there.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early advantage with a 13-5 run to start the game. The Hornets were able to score the final five points of the quarter and trailed 13-10 entering the second period.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to nine points in the second quarter, but the Hornets ended the half on a 14-3 run to take the lead. They led 25-23 at halftime.
The Bulldogs came out of halftime firing on all cylinders and went on an 18-4 run to retake the lead and take full control of the game. The Hornets trailed 45-30 entering the final quarter.
The Hornets were not able to make a dent in the deficit during the final period as the Bulldogs lead continued to grow and they went on to beat the Hornets by 24.
Rahul Patel led the Hornets with 18 points for the game, followed by Will Rector with 12 points and Zach Stovall with nine points
With the loss, the Hornets were eliminated from tournament play and they finished their season with an overall record of 15-17.
