Winchester Police Chief Ritchie Lewis sits in his office that he inherited from his dear friend, Dennis Young, in not the best circumstances, but Lewis has risen to the occasion admirably.
Anytime anybody is placed in a position as prominent as a police chief, they tend to ask themselves whether they are up for the task at hand.
Richard “Ritchie” Lewis was faced with that same question after being appointed on Oct. 20,
2017, as Winchester’s new police chief. Such a promotion would be extremely welcome, but the reason Lewis got the nod for the position occurred through a tragedy after Police Chief Dennis Young had died from a heart attack.
How one moves into a role a dear friend held for 17 years is a tough question for anyone to answer.
