Coffee Airfoilers Model Radio Control Club raised $1,200 for the Wounded Warriors recently, joining more than 200 organizations that held special events celebrating National Model Aviation Day with proceeds going to benefit the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
The Academy of Model Aeronautics proclaimed Saturday, Aug. 16, as National Aviation Day. The Coffee Airfoilers event took place at the clubs’ flying field in Tullahoma on Wattendorf Highway, next to the Arnold Golf Course.
Club President Don Cleveland said more than 100 people attended the event that included flight demonstrations, free flight lessons, concessions and a raffle.
“My best guess is that we had about 150 in attendance, they were mostly locals,” he said. “We had 30 or so fliers, and we had 25 people take free flight lessons.”
Flight demonstrations ranged from helicopters, 3D flying, and giant scale, to International Miniature Aerobatic Club, first person view, and a rescue demonstration.
Club members say there were proud to be able to donate $1,200 to the Wounded Warrior Foundation as a result of the event.
