GREEN, Betty Branch, age 79 of Fayetteville and formerly of Franklin County, passed away on Saturday July 17, 2010 at Fayetteville Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Green; mother, Lucy Jane Adams Branch and her father, William Harrison branch; sisters, Carrie Branch Hensley, Effie Branch Sisk, Yonia Branch Steele and Mavis Branch Ezell; brothers, Harrison Branch, Thomas Branch, Sam Branch and John L. Branch. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Mary Branch (Ollie) Speakman of Tullahoma, Lona Starnes of Winchester, Charles Branch and Tony Branch, both of Chattanooga, Wiley Sisk, Ovie Sisk and Nancy Ashley, all of Estill Springs, James Branch of Rossville, GA, Shirley Hemminger of Gary, Ind. and Mildred Demartine of Michigan; great-nieces and nephews, Teresa Steele, Pamela Steele Arnold, Tony Moorehead, Billy Starnes, Arlin Hall, Danny Hall, Chris Parks; and numerous other relatives. SMITH, Percy "Holmes." Jr., age 64, formerly of Winchester, Tenn. (presently of Elyria, Ohio), went home to be with the Lord and his loving family and friends on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Cleveland Ohio. Percy Jr., one of 14 children, was born on Jan. 1, 1946 in Florence, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Smith Sr. and Birt Ella Bolden-Smith (nee Hill); daughter, Latawnna Knowles; sister, Katherine Ann Smith; brothers, Bob Pickett, James Bolden, Lionell Smith, Johnny Bolden, Emmitt Ray Smith and Walter Lee Malone; nephews, Nicholas Smith, Charles "Chattanooga" Smith and Frederick Gray; and a niece, Demetria C. Smith. He relocated to Elyria Ohio in 1967 after serving his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Corp during the Vietnam War. During his tenure in the Vietnam War, Percy Jr. was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze service stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Percy Jr. was a tool and die maker who spent the last 35 years as a faithful UAW member. He worked seven years at the Brookpark, Ohio Ford Plant and 28 years at General Motors in both Sandusky and Parma Ohio. He retired from General Motors in 2008. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and sports. He also enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Percy Jr. will be fondly remembered by his children, Eric Stovall (Venaye) of Sandusky, Ohio, Rhonda Stovall of Germantown, WI, Percy Morris of Tullahoma, TN, Jennifer A. Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Jeffrey A. Smith of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Rubye Jackson, Carolyn (Floyd) Taylor and Sandra (Bo) Thomas; brothers, R.T. (Arletra) Bolden, Jo Smith and William Bert Smith. He was the cherished grandfather of four grandchildren and was dear to many family and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at 12 noon in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Chattanooga. CLARK, Grady Lee, age 57 of Decherd, departed this life on Monday, July 26, 2010 at his residence, after loosing a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Clark was of the Baptist faith. He was a car salesman for many years and also was the proprietor of Winchester Shell on the Cowan Hwy. Mr. Clark was an avid golfer and Nascar fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Willie Clark. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Clark of Decherd; son, Casey (Michelle) Clark of Huntland; daughter, Keri (Chris) McBee of Winchester; son, Brian (Celina) Clark of Beersheba Springs; son, Chris (Cindy) Clark; sisters,

BURTON, Mary Helen, age 63 of Winchester, died on Monday, July 26, 2010 at her home. She was born on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1947 in Winchester, the daughter of the late Earl and Bessie Peyton Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Stephens, two brothers, Larry and Kenneth Campbell and sister, Carolyn Brewer. Surviving are sons, Eddie (Jacqueline) Burton of Mulberry, Benny Burton of Shelbyville and Chad (Cheryl) Burton of Lynchburg; two daughters, Christy Burton and Michelle (Jeremy) Sisk, both of Winchester; sisters, Sheila Stephens of Winchester, Rebecca Denby of Tullahoma and Dawn Jackson of Belvidere.; 13 grandchildren; and special friend, Charles Burton. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 5-9 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. STROTHEIDE, Major (Ret) Norman Emil, 77, died Tuesday July 27, 2010 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born March 18, 1933 in New Baden, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Sue (Morris), a son Bradley, his parents Norman and Viola Strotheide and a sister and brother Robert Strotheide and Linda Lokmer. He was married to Marilyn Lemming April 26, 2003 and she survives along with his children, Eric (Tammy) Strotheide of Lynchburg, Vicki (Earl) Vaughn and Barbi Rappaport both of Illinois, Caryn (John) Stinson and Jenny (Terry) Coffey of Chattanooga. He leaves ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He graduated from Granite City High School in Illinois where he played basketball and tennis. In 1955 he graduated, from SIU in Carbondale, Illinois, with a double major in History and English. He was president of his fraternity and won every tennis tournament he entered. He received his MBA from Central Michigan University in 1975. He served 20 years in the USAF, 12 years as a navigator on B52 bombers and eight years as an intelligence officer. He served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He served for 4 years as the London Liaison in London, England where he wrote daily reports for Queen Elizabeth. After retiring from the Air Force he was appointed Director of Safety and Security at Chattanooga Airport. He lived 15 years on Tim’s Ford Lake and was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Harmony. He did extensive work for the Lexi Crossroads Fire Department. There will be a private service for family in Tullahoma. His ashes will be buried with his first wife in New Baden, Illinois. Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Highland Rim in Tullahoma.

RUTLEDGE, J.D., age 89 of Shelbyville, died on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. He was born on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1921 in Fayetteville, the son of the late William C. and Ella Catherine Mitchell Rutledge. Mr. Rutledge served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the school system as a Maintenance Supervisor. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rutledge was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Farrar Rutledge; sisters, Frances Howard and Dorothy Olenchek; brothers, Wallace Bud Rutledge, Dewey Rutledge, Billy Rutledge and David Rutledge. Surviving are sons, Jim Rutledge and Dale Rutledge, both of Shelbyville; daughter, Jane Bolduc of Shelbyville; brothers, Lilburn Rutledge and Don Rutledge, both of Lynchburg, Fred Rutledge of Fayetteville and Paul Rutledge of Reno, NV; sister, Bob Warren of Petersburg; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. NEWTON, Rosa Mae, age 80 of Fayetteville, died on Friday, July 23, 2010 at her home. She was born on Thursday, Jan. 30, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Ernest and Meta Krohl Ihle. Surviving is her husband, Dr. Norris Lynn Newton, Sr.; sons, Charles Anthony Newton of Woodland, Texas and Dr. Norris Lynn Newton, Jr. of Moore Co.; daughter, Anna Bowden of Murfreesboro; brother, David Ihle of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Nickolaus J. Vecchio, Julianna Marie Vecchio, Rosa Mae Lenan Adams, Mary Newton Wingfield, Charles A. Newton, Patricia Jane Newton and Mark Anthony Newton; and great-grandchild, Jayden Michael Hannel. POSEY, LCpl. Gregory Alan, age 22 of Winchester, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was born in Melbourne, Fla. on March 26, 1987, the son of Steven Alan Posey and Delma Kay Posey of Winchester. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, Golf Company. Mr. Posey was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Petey Templeton and paternal grandfather, J.D. Posey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Kristopher Posey of Winchester; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Joyce Jackson of Winchester; maternal grandparents, Del and Shirley Mantle of Winchester; paternal great-grandmother, Alberta Davis of Winchester; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 from 1-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott James officiating.
