HADDON, Mary L. "Kitty," age 90 of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born on Aug. 23, 1919 in Sherwood, the daughter of the late James Andy Steele and Minnie Katherine Pack Steele. Mrs. Haddon was a member of the Fort Trial Baptist church and of the Truth Seekers Sunday school class. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haddon was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Haddon; daughter, Nancy Haddon; a sister; five brothers; and two great-grandsons. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy H. "Dot" Collins of Collinsville, JoAnne H. Short of Roanoke, VA, Bobbie H. Williams of Randleman, N.C. and Kathy H. Craig of Bassett; sisters, Ruby S. Leslie of Bland, VA and Annie Chitwood of Dickson; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. KENNEDY, Elmer, age 71, a resident of Estill Springs, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at his home. Mr. Kennedy was born on the 30th day of September, 1938 in Charlie’s Branch in the New River Community of Anderson County. As a child, he lived in Frost Bottom and continued to live there until adulthood. Elmer moved to Middle Tennessee in 1979. He served his country in the United States Army and he retired from Wilson Sporting Goods Manufacturing as a Machinist. Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Kennedy; his mother, Fannie Kennedy; three brothers, Leamon, Lowell and Glen Kennedy; and a niece Deliata Lynn Brown. He is survived by his father and step-mother, James and Alieen Kennedy of Kingston; sons; Dennis White and wife Karen of Estill Springs, Jeff Kennedy and wife, Melissa of Madison, AL, Mark Kennedy and wife Tina of Winchester and James Kennedy of Tullahoma; two daughters, April Arnold and her husband Joey of Winchester and Robin "Tina" Aslinger of Oak Ridge; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Kennedy and wife Debbie of Harriman; three sisters, Zelma Kennedy and husband Walter of Harriman, Glenna Cornett and husband Buzz of Speedwell and Betty Harrison and husband Rodney of Kingston; and by nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends. MCGUIRE, Rev. Jonathan R., Sr., age 57 of the Oak Grove community in Decherd, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. A native of Shelbyville,, Rev. McGuire was called to the ministry at the age of 16. His first three pastorates were in West Virginia and he was later called to pastor several churches in Tennessee. For the past four and a half years, Rev. McGuire served as pastor of the White Oak Grove Church of God where he reminded the congregation each Sunday that, "God is good, all the time." Rev. McGuire will be remembered by his family as the finest example of a loving father and a Godly man who was deeply devoted to his ministry and his service to the church. Brother McGuire is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Raymond Wesley McGuire in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Freeman McGuire of the Oak Grove Community; two daughters, Elizabeth (Brandon) Little of Parker, CO and Angela (David) Franklin of Decherd; two sons, Jonathan R. STATHAM, Rosie Deloreze, age 87 of Hillsboro, passed away on Thursday, Feb 4, 2010 at her residence. She was born on March 3, 1922 in Groveoak, AL, the daughter of the late Earl Marbut and Lillie Richie Marbut. She was a homemaker. WILLIAMS, Grady, age 91 of Decherd, died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Willows at Winchester. He was born on Nov. 21, 1918 in Decherd, the son of the late Frank Williams and Dovie Champion Williams. Mr. Williams was a farmer. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Williams; two brothers, John Kelly Williams and Allen Lent Williams; a son, Timothy Williams; and a grandson, Chris Williams. JACKSON, Barbara Ruth, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010. Barbara was born to Lark and Emma Lee Jackson. She grew up in Cowan and attended school in Winchester. After graduating from Franklin County High School, Barbara moved to Texas and attended the Harris Hospital School of Vocational Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked at the Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as several area nursing homes. She is survived by her brother, James R. Jackson of Winchester; nieces, Jacqueline Miller of North Richland Hills, Donna Jackson of Tenn., Linda Cabral of Attleboro, Mass. and Charlene Thomas of Powells Crossroads; and nephews, Bill Jackson of Marysville, Michael Jackson of Providence, R.I. and Chester Jackson of Tenn. LEECH, J. T., (Jan. 27, 1916-Jan. 30, 2010) passed away on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. J. T. is best described as a legend in his own time in The Walking Horse World, winning 32 World Championships, numerous reserve Championships and too many blue ribbons to count, is a dream that most horsemen never accomplish. In 2004, The Celebration inducted him into the prestigious Tennessee Walking Horse Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed upon few. He was a judge, a member of the Tenn. Walking Horse Breeder’s Association, a member of the Walking Horse Trainer’s Association and a previous director on the Board of Director’s for the Trainer’s Association. In addition to being a great horse trainer, J. T. was a man of ingenuity, strong work ethics, integrity, and was a very prosperous farmer. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Leech. Survivors include his wife, Marianne Gray Leech, two sons, Rodney Leech (Veronica) of Lynchburg and Jimmy Leech of Princeton, KY, and a daughter, Rebecca Squire of California.
