Search ongoing for gunman in deadly south Nashville shooting

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – Police are searching for the gunman who killed a man near a public housing development overnight.

Investigators found the victim lying in the street on University Court at the Tony Sudekum Apartments just after 11 p.m. Sunday.

The 23-year-old man, identified by police as Maxime R. Assem, died from his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

According to police, Assem parked his car on University Court and walked toward one of the nearby residential buildings.

Shortly after that, Assem and two other people returned to his car, which is when he was shot. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects.
