Al-Anon’s “Peace and Serenity” group meets Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. at Winchester First United Methodist Church, 100 S. Jefferson St. in Winchester. All concerned about a loved one’s drinking are welcome.

Republican Ladies Christmas party

The Republican Ladies’ Christmas party is today at 6 p.m. at the Moore-Cortner Event Center. The gift from the group will be money for bicycles for Franklin County children. Please join the Republican ladies for a festive night.  Ladies will provide refreshments.

F.C. Federated Republican Women’s Club

The Franklin County Federated Republican Women’s Club will meet for their Christmas luncheon today at 11 a.m. at Buckaroo’s Restaurant in Winchester.

“Christmas Cars” movie screening with John Schneider

John Schneider, known for his role as Bo Duke in “The Dukes of Hazzard,” will host a movie screening of his latest film, “Christmas Cars,” at the Oldham Theater today at 7 p.m. Red-carpet arrivals with Schneider and other cast members and guests start at 5 p.m. followed by a meet-and-greet for VIP ticket holders at 5:30 p.m. Doors for general admission open at 6 p.m. A question-and-answer session with Schneider follows the movie. The Hill Brothers

The Hill Brothers will perform at Shenanigans, located at 12595 Sollace M. Freeman Hwy. in Sewanee, on Friday at 8 p.m. The $7 cover charge will go to help fund Christmas on the Mountain. This year, more than 300 children will have a much better Christmas due to the generosity of donors on the Cumberland Plateau who join with Morton Memorial United Methodist Church to purchase gifts, which their parents and grandparents may select from this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at greatly reduced prices. Disadvantaged families in the area will be able to obtain gifts for their children for a small fee collected from each qualifying family. The church is located at 322 W. Main St. in Monteagle. A Merry Little Downtown Christmas

Everyone is invited to A Merry Little Downtown Christmas Friday and Saturday on the Winchester Square. Luminaries will light the way Friday for shoppers and carriage rides will be available for $3 each or $5 per couple. Vision Church’s Holly Jolly Gingerbread Village will feature a life-sized gingerbread village. Enjoy free hot chocolate, crafts, cookie decorating, photo opportunities, a marketplace and a Santa visit at the Winchester Livery. Shop and sign up for prize drawings.  Saturday starts off with a free pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at Winchester First Baptist and includes a variety of fun activities for the entire family. A complimentary showing of “The Grinch” will be held at the Oldham Theatre at 4 p.m. The FCHS Show Choir will perform at 6 p.m. followed by a barrel lighting at Branchwater Distillery at 7 p.m.

Free pancake breakfast

The Franklin County AM Rotary Club invites everyone to their annual free pancake breakfast at Winchester First Baptist on Saturday from 7-10 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, sausages and beverages as well as a live performance of Christmas music. Donations will be accepted to offset the cost of the food. They are also asking participants to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Landyn and Levi Fill the Fire Truck Toy Drive.

Huntland Christmas parade

The Huntland Volunteer Fire Department will present the 27th annual Christmas Parade Saturday at 1 p.m. Assemble at Huntland School at 11 a.m. The theme is “Merry Christmas.” To enter in one of the following categories, emergency vehicles, clubs, churches, businesses, 4-wheelers and motorcycles, animals, tractors or animal-drawn vehicles, call Troy Gamble at 931-469-7592.

Decherd Christmas Parade

The Decherd Christmas Parade is Saturday at 6 p.m. in downtown Decherd. Everyone is urged to come and see the magic of the lighted floats and other beautiful entries.

Tims Ford State Park’s Santa visit & Holiday Market

Tims Ford State Park’s Friends Group will host a Holiday Market Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the park’s recreation hall featuring eight vendors. The park’s Santa event will be held from 5-8 p.m. Activities will include a letter-writing station and refreshments table. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit from 5-7 p.m. Bring a camera for photos. Drop off completed gingerbread houses from 5-7 p.m. to be entered in the gingerbread house decorating contest. At 7:30 p.m., a park ranger will read “The Night Before Christmas” and gingerbread houses will be judged with winners announced at the end of the story reading.  This free event is suitable for the entire family. Those planning to shop at the Holiday Market should bring cash.  

Wreaths Across America

The public is invited to help lay wreaths during a Wreaths Across America ceremony at Beech Grove Confederate Cemetery Saturday at 11 a.m. There are 59 wreaths to be laid, including one for a Revolutionary soldier. Singer/Songwriter Concert

Christmas from Landyn and Levi Inc., a nonprofit toy drive, will hold a singer/songwriter concert at John T’s BBQ on the Square in Winchester Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring Dave Pahanish, a well-known singer and songwriter from Nashville. Attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped to this family-oriented show.

Better Angels skills workshop

Better Angels, a citizens’ organization uniting red and blue Americans to depolarize America, invites everyone to a free workshop Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. The workshop will be held at St. Mark’s Hall at Otey Parish Church located at 216 University Ave. in Sewanee. The goals are to focus on learning how to communicate better with people who differ politically.
