Free flu shots, COVID shots, testing and kits
The Franklin County Health Department, 266 Joyce Lane, Winchester, offers COVID testing at no charge. Free COVID shots will be provided for qualifying age groups Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. while supplies are available. To make sure you are eligible for the vaccine under the current phase call the Health Department first. In addition, free self-testing COVID kits are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Senior Center remains closed
The Franklin County Senior Citizens Center remains closed until further notice. A reopening date has not been determined. The staff is working limited hours and can be reached at 931-967-9853. USDA NRCS applications
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting applications for their Conservation Stewardship Program. While applications are accepted on a continuous basis, applications must be submitted by March 26 to be considered for fiscal year 2021 funding. Contact the local NRCS Service Center, 200 S. Arts and Roses
Local artists have created their impressions of roses in various mediums for a new art show, Arts and Roses, at the Artisan Depot and Gift Shop, 204 Cumberland St., Cowan. Everyone is invited to the free show featuring paintings, multimedia, stained glass, jewelry, natural items and more. Many items will be for sale. This show runs through March 28. Gallery hours are Thursday, Friday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit www.franklincoarts.org.
A Red Cross blood drive will be held Friday, from 1-7 p.m. at Winchester Church of Christ 1230 S. College St., Winchester. Download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Those who give in February will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.
F.C. Library resumes regular hours
The Franklin County Library is no longer in a COVID-19 alert zone and will return fully to regular operations beginning Monday. Masks are strongly encouraged when visiting. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Curbside services will also remain available with limits of 15 items including up to four DVDs per account. Children's materials are by book bundles of 10 only. Items may be reserved online, by calling 931-967-3706 or by going to franklincountylibrary.org. The children's library is currently unavailable for browsing due to a shelving project with a reopening of the children's section set for March 15.
USDA Commodity Day
Eligible recipients may receive free USDA commodities on March 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at Wilton Circle, Winchester. For questions call the South Central Human Resource Office, 931-967-1438.
All-season spring craft show
Everyone is invited to an all-season spring craft show on March 12 from 2-7 p.m. and March 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 8287 Tullahoma Hwy., Estill Springs. For information, call Sherrie Sons, 931-308-3802.
Republican Party Ladies
The Franklin County Republican Party Ladies meet on March 24 at 10 a.m. at SUNRISE (The Breakfast Place) for selection of a new ladies’ chairman and to make plans for upcoming party elections. All Republican ladies are invited and will be welcomed.
