Public textbook review

The public is welcome to attend a textbook review for the English Language Arts adoption in the conference room at the F.C. Board of Education office, 215 S. College St, Winchester during the week of Jan. 27.  Samples will be available for viewing each day that week from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Info, 931-967-0626.

Adult Education

South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance Project Learn offers free adult education classes to help adults prepare for the high school equivalency exam. Choose from morning or evening classes that meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 5-8 p.m. at Townsend Center, 900 S. Shepherd St., Winchester. Al-Anon

Al-Anon’s “Peace and Serenity” group meets Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. at Winchester First United Methodist Church, 100 S. Jefferson St. in Winchester. All concerned about a loved one’s drinking are welcome.

FCDP meeting

Everyone is invited to the Franklin County Democratic Party meeting on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Louise Carrington, 214 N. FCRP chili supper

The Franklin County Republican Party’s annual chili supper is Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Red Roof Pavilion in the Winchester City Park.  This event is free, but donations are appreciated. Candidates for FC Tax Assessor, US Senate and US House of Representatives will speak and state officials will be introduced.

President's Day Spelling Bee/U.S. History Bee

Everyone is invited to join in for a night of friendly competition as area students compete in a spelling bee and adults compete in an American history bee on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Sewanee Senior Citizen's Center located at 5 Ball Park Road in Sewanee.Volunteers are needed to bring soup, sandwiches, dessert or drinks.
