F.C. Historical Society picnic

The Franklin County Historical Society’s annual picnic has been canceled. Normally held on the third Monday of July, the event is canceled due to the ongoing pandemic.


The Franklin County school system has openings for preschool for the 2020-2021 school year. Call the F.C. Board of Education at 931-967-0626 and ask for Beth or Patti.

Free student meals

The Franklin County School Nutrition Program is continuing meal distribution through July 30. Meals may be picked up in a drive-thru service at Franklin County High School each Thursday from 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the back of the school at the kitchen dock area. Children do not have to be present to receive meals. All children under 18 years of age may receive meals at no cost. Frozen foods must be heated at home following re-heating guidelines. Meals are not to be consumed on-site. Distribution days in July are July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. For more information, contact the School Nutrition District Office. 

Blood drive

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread in the U.S., Blood Assurance needs the public to schedule and keep donation appointments to ensure the continued adequacy of the blood supply. Please visit a donor center and continue to give blood during this pandemic crisis. Blood Assurance will give away an Echo Dot every week to one randomly chosen donor. All donors over the age of 18 are eligible to win. Blood Assurance is located at 652 N. Jackson St., Tullahoma. 931-461-5773.

State parks open

Tennessee state parks are open for day activities as well as overnight stays. Call area state parks to book a cabin, campsite or lodge room.

The Franklin County Senior Center remains closed through Tuesday. Call 931-967-9853 for information.

June 26

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Friday from 1-7 p.m. at Winchester Church of Christ, 1230 S. College St., Winchester. A driver’s license or two other forms of identification will be required at check in. A free $5 Amazon gift card will be provided to donors via email. COVID-19 antibody testing will be provided to give donors insight into whether they have been exposed to this coronavirus.

July 4

Fireworks show

The annual Lights over the Lake Fourth of July celebration will be held July 4 at Winchester’s Red Roof Pavilion, located next to the Bass Club in Winchester City Park. Food trucks will be available at the park.

July 9

Free food

A commodity food distribution will be held for Franklin County residents July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at Southern Middle Tennessee Pavilion, 1041 Wilton Circle, Winchester. This is drive-up only and clients are required to stay in vehicles with windows rolled up. Commodity printout or ID should be presented through the window. Staff will place food in trunks. The Swiss Heritage Festival, set for July 25, has been canceled for health and safety purposes.

Aug. 1

Golf Fore Paws

Animal Harbor’s Golf Fore Paws fundraiser will be held Aug. 1 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at The Bear Trace at Tims Ford State Park. The four-person scramble is $300 per team or $75 per player. Animal Harbor bone drop

Animal Harbor’s bone drop fundraiser will be held Aug. 8 at noon at Animal Harbor. You do not have to be present to win. First-place prize for bone dropped closest to the bullseye is $3,000; second, $1,500; and third, $500. Prize money will be rewarded contingent upon selling 150 bones. Drop off entry payment of $100 at the Harbor, 56 Nor-Nan Road, Winchester, or mail the bone drop signup form and $100 for each bone purchased to Animal Harbor, P.O. Arts and Ales

The sixth annual Arts and Ales festival will be held Sept. 19 from noon to 5 p.m. at Monterey Station in Cowan. Enjoy beer, art, music, vendors, fun mob art projects and more. VIP tickets are $40 each. Regular tickets are $25 and are available at the Artisan Depot Gallery, located at 204 Cumberland St. in Cowan, as well as other venues in the region.
