Food drive

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will sponsor a food drive to benefit the Good Samaritan Ministries in Decherd on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Dollar General parking lot (old Fred’s store lot). Please donate non-perishable foods such as canned goods, pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, etc.

Reunion

The Green, Hawkins and Mooney reunion will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Monteagle City Hall pavilion.

Memorial Day service

A Memorial Day service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. under the tent at Franklin Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, just off Cowan Highway in Winchester. Refreshments will be provided. Chairs will be available, but attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by DAV Chapter 71, VFW Post 1893 and F.C. American Legion Post 44. All are welcome.

June 1

C.O.P. Program

A Community Orientation to Policing Program will be held Tuesday through Aug. 3. This 10-week course for adults 18 and older is held on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. at the Franklin County Library in partnership with local law enforcement officers who are granting citizens a hands-on opportunity to go behind the scenes of law enforcement practice and procedure. A graduation ceremony will be held Aug. 3. Registration and background checks are required to participate.  To register, email cguess@fcsheriff.org by Friday.

June 1-July 23

Summer reading program

The signup for Franklin County Library’s summer reading program, “Tails and Tales,” starts Tuesday and ends July 23. Upon signup, readers ages 2-18 will receive a reading bingo card. After completing four bingos (vertically or horizontally), readers will receive a brag tag. A total of four brag tags may be earned. Other prizes will also be presented. Commodity food distribution

A commodity food distribution will be held for Franklin County residents only on June 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at 1041 Wilton Circle, Winchester. This is a drive-up only event and clients must remain in vehicles. Commodity printout or identification should be presented through the window. Staff will place food in vehicles. South Central Human Resource Agency Policy Council and Executive Committee meets June 3, at 11 a.m., 1437 Winchester Hwy., Fayetteville. SCHRA Budget, Audit, Appropriations, Property Policies and Procedures, Nominating By Laws committees meet at 10 a.m.
