NA and AA meetings

Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held in Decherd and Winchester. NA meetings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. at Decherd United Methodist Church, 300 E. Open house reception

The community is invited to an open house reception at Artisan Depot, 204 East Cumberland St., Cowan, Friday from 4-7 p.m. The latest show is titled “Melissa’s Menagerie,” featuring a selection of mixed media art focusing on female issues and empowerment by Melissa Long Krosnick. This exhibition will be up through October during gallery hours Thursday, Friday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Everyone is invited to join in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Saturday starting with registration at 8 a.m. at the Jack Daniel’s Welcome Center, 133 Lynchburg Hwy., Lynchburg. The walk is free but personal donations are welcome. A ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the two-mile walk at 9:30 a.m. All events will implement safety protocols including physical distancing, masks (where required), contactless registration, hand-sanitizing stations and more. HorsePlay Inc. fundraiser

Everyone is invited to Horse Play, Inc.’s big fundraiser today through Sunday at the Bolo Club, 738 Sinking Cove Road, Sherwood. The event will include a trail ride of the countryside (rental horses also available or bring your own), live auction and HorsePlay’s yearly barn dance featuring the band Double Shot. Home-cooked food will be available each day. All proceeds will go to HorsePlay to help support its therapeutic riding program for children with mental or physical challenges. Barbecue & auction

The nonprofit Arrowhead Boys Ranch welcomes everyone to its annual barbecue and auction fundraiser Sept. 25 at 239 Cortner Mill Road, Normandy. Barbecue platters are $12 in advance ($15 at the gate). Children under 8 get free hot dog meals, face painting and bounce houses. Tours available 4-5 p.m. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.  The silent auction is 4-7:30 p.m. A live auction starts at 7 p.m. Proceeds go directly to expenses such as housing, counseling, food, healthcare, transportation and activities for boys at Arrowhead Ranch. Golf tournament

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will hold a fall golf tournament Sept. 27 with registration from 7:30 a.m. to noon for their 36, four-person team format featuring two separate flights. Entry fee is $80 per player or $320 team. Winner of three-hole contests wins a 4K TV sponsored by Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Hole-in-one prize is $25,000 cash sponsored by V.R. Williams. Oct. 2

60th class reunion

The Franklin County High School Class of 1961 will hold its 60th class reunion Oct. 2 at the Red Roof Pavilion in Winchester City Park. Classmates will salute Mr. Rebel with a meal suitable for a tailgate party. Wear a game-day T-shirt. Donations are appreciated to cover the meal. All are welcome to attend, whether members of the 1961 class or not.

Wine, Whiskers & Fancy Treats

Bonfire night

The Franklin County Republican Party will hold a bonfire night at the Peters-Davis farm behind Factory Furniture in Estill Springs on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. Enjoy barbecue and trimmings, desserts and s’mores by the fire. Donations will be appreciated for the Republican Party. Congressman Scott DesJarlais will speak. All leaning Republicans and future candidates are invited.

The Franklin County Senior Citizens Center will host its annual Fall/Christmas Craft Fair Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin County Annex building community room and lobby, 851 Dinah Shore Blvd., Winchester.
