Many of you may have seen in the last couple of weeks some advertising posted for my office in newspapers and on Facebook of a very sweet infant baby girl and the ad says “IS YOUR CHILD WELL ADJUSTED?” and the precious baby who is our “PATIENT OF THE MONTH” for March.
I would like to take this opportunity to provide chiropractic education on why newborns/infants should have a chiropractic spinal checkup and chiropractic care.
If there is any time in a human’s life that chiropractic is care is needed the most, it is right after birth. The birthing process can be very traumatic to a baby’s spine and it can be harmed.
The baby may suffer one or multiple subluxations of the spine. Subluxations of the spine are misalignments of the spine.
Why do subluxations matter?
Subluxations place pressure on nerves which in turn cause dysfunction in the area of the body in which they are located. Just to mention a few of these dysfunctions are vomiting, hyperactivity, sleeplessness, colic, ear aches, nose, ear and throat infections, allergies, breastfeeding problems, Erb’s palsy, torticollis (twisted neck), unbalanced face and skull development and foot inversion.
Although it is not proclaimed that chiropractic is a cure for any of these conditions, it has been observed in chiropractic studies and by chiropractors for the last one hundred years that these conditions respond very positively to chiropractic care.
With this being said, I firmly believe that all infants, experiencing problems or not, should have a spinal exam and chiropractic care after birth. Rest assured that the techniques that I use in my office are gentle and safe.
It doesn’t stop here though because chiropractic care is a lifestyle health choice for all ages from infants to the elderly. I encourage all parents to provide the opportunity for their newborns to start their lives off with optimal health and avoid problems that could affect them for a lifetime.
