Wiseman accepts APSU Dean's Scholarship

    Austin Peay State University congratulates James Wiseman of Winchester on being awarded the Dean's Scholarship for high-achieving freshmen for the Fall 2019 semester.

     The dean's scholarships are for freshman students who have a 3.5+ grade point average and scored 26 ACT or 1170 on SAT.

Bennett offered ASPU Dean’s Scholarship

      Austin Peay State University congratulates David Bennett of Estill Springs on being offered the Dean's Scholarship for high-achieving freshmen for the fall 2019 semester.

     The Dean's Scholarships are for freshman students who have a 3.5+ GPA and 26 ACT or 1170 SAT.

Local student earn Webb School honors

      Winchester resident Madeline Boyanton recently earned A Honor Roll status at the Web School in Bell Buckle.

     Boyanton, who is a senior at Webb School, earned the honor for the third quarter of the 2018-2019 school year. 

Campbell and Smith initiated into honor society

      Natalie Campbell of Belvidere and Kristen Smith of Winchester were recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a selective all-discipline collegiate honor society at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

     Campbell and Smith are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

     Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

 

Local residents earn degree from WGU

      The following local residents have earned a degree from Western Governors University.

Students earning a degree include Kristi Stewart of Estill Springs, Master’s of Arts, mathematics education; Ashley McAnally of Winchester, MBA, healthcare management; Christopher Brown of Winchester, MBA, healthcare management;

John Burt of Winchester, Bachelor’s of Science, IT - security emphasis; Mitchell Durcholz of Winchester, Master’s of Business Administration; and Nicole Green of Winchester, Master’s of Arts, mathematics education.

The online, nonprofit university held commencement ceremonies last fall and earlier this year to celebrate the recent graduation of nearly 22,000 students from across the country.

 

Jayne inducted into honor society

      Kimberly Jayne of Belvidere was among the top 15 percent of students inducted into Phi Delta Lambda honor society at Trevecca Nazarene University.

     Jayne is majoring in biology/chemistry. Phi Delta Lambda is the international honor society of the colleges and universities of the Church of the Nazarene. Membership in the Zeta Chapter of Phi Delta Lambda is the highest academic honor bestowed by Trevecca Nazarene University.

     The inductees were honored with a dinner on May 3.

 

Clark receives degree

      Catherine Clark of Winchester was among students who received degrees from the University of Tennessee at Martin during spring commencement.

     The ceremony was held on May 4 on the UT Martin campus.

 

Jenkins named to dean's list

      Lily Jenkins of Cowan, was named to the spring 2019 dean's list at Berry College.

      The Dean's List honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester.

 

Trevecca recognizes local students

      Trevecca Nazarene University closed the 2018-2019 academic year by recognizing student achievements.

     Local students receiving awards include Anna Ezell of Winchester and Kimberly Jayne of Belvidere.

     Ezell received the Outstanding Student Teacher Awards. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Trevecca.

     Jayne received the Outstanding Senior Chemistry Major Award and Phi Delta Lambda for Science and Mathematics. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry at Trevecca.

Holt on dean’s list

 Jacob Holt of Estill Springs qualified for the spring 2019 dean's list at Belmont University.

Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Approximately 32 percent of Belmont's 8,318 students qualified for the spring 2019 dean's list.

Local students on Austin Peay dean’s list

      Austin Peay State University is proud to recognize several local students who were on the dean's list during the Spring 2019 semester.

     Those students include: Shelby Cowan of Estill Springs, Ariel Daugherty of Winchester, Zachary Palmer of Decherd, Ashleigh Songer of Winchester, Clint Stephens of Belvidere, Caitlin Toothman of Estill Springs and Tyler Wallace of Decherd.

     To qualify for the dean's list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or greater.

Hart graduates

 Kathryn Hart of Sewanee is a spring 2019 graduate of Columbia State Community College.

 Hart earned an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certificate.

In total, 490 students graduated from Columbia State May 4, with 344degree and certificate candidates recognized during the spring commencement ceremony.

UT Martin honor roll

The University of Tennessee at Martin recently named two local students to their spring semester chancellor’s honor roll.

Maggie E. Brazier of Decherd and Catherine N. Clark of Winchester earned high honors placement.

     To be eligible for the chancellor’s honor roll honors category, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.2 through 3.49; high honors, 3.5 through 3.79; and highest honors, 3.8 through 4.0.

Local residents named to Harding University dean's list

Three local students are among more than 1,200 Harding University students included on the dean's list for grades achieved during the spring 2019 semester.

Earning top honors is Olivia Stone from Belvidere, sophomore biology major, Clayton Loudermilk from Estill Springs, sophomore English and leadership and ministry major and Brandon Johnson from Estill Springs, senior kinesiology and health major.

To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Johnson graduates from Harding University

Brandon Johnson of Estill Springs is one of more than 800 graduates who received a diploma at Harding University's commencement exercises held on May 11, 2019.

Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and health with a teaching license.

Harding University is a private Christian university located in Searcy, Arkansas.

Jones named to Chancellor's List

 Madalyn Jones of Winchester has earned placement on the chancellor's list at Troy University for the spring semester/Term 4 of the 2018/2019 academic year.

The chancellor's list honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who earn a grade point average of 4.0.

Webb graduates from University of Mississippi

 Anne Russell Webb of Sewanee graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Mississippi on May 11, 2019 at the university's 166th commencement.

Webb was among more than 5,500 students who received degrees as December, May and August graduates.

VolState dean’s list

 Three local students have been named to the spring 2019 dean's list and honor roll at Volunteer State Community College.

Students earning dean’s list status include Tara Cates of Belvidere, Madalyn Edde of Estill Springs and Mycah Jordan of Winchester.

To be awarded dean's list recognition, students must have accumulated a minimum of 18 overall collegiate-level hours and complete a minimum of 12 collegiate-level hours with at least a 3.750 grade point average during the awarding term.

Trevecca commencement held

 Trevecca Nazarene University recently held its 118th commencement convocation.

The University conferred more than 1,140 degrees during the Saturday morning ceremony on May 4, 2019. Local graduates include: Katie Lynn Ashley of Belvidere, bachelor of arts degree; Rebecca L Baxter of Belvidere, bachelor of arts degree; Anna Loye Ezell of Winchester, bachelor of science degree; Kimberly Ellen Jayne of Belvidere, bachelor of science degree; Tara Allison Scharber of Cowan, bachelor of arts degree; and Sarah Anne Sells of Winchester, bachelor of arts degree.

Clark named to ‘Who’s Who’

  The University of Tennessee at Martin recently recognized the members of the 2019 class of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Catherine Clark of Winchester is among the 37 juniors, seniors and graduate students who are included from UT Martin this year.

Clark is a senior majoring in biology. Who’s Who Among Students, established in 1934, is a national honor society based on academic and community service merit rather than financial ability to participate.

Wooten earns Doctor of Optometry Degree

  Tiffany Wooten, O.D., of Winchester was among 130 students recently awarded the Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.

Wooten is the daughter of Dorothy and Michael Wooten and the granddaughter of Betty and the late R.W. Wooten and the late Dorothy and Ardie Champion. She is a graduate of Franklin County High School and Tennessee Technological University.

Misty Isbell of Decherd and Pearson Brock of Winchester recently earned degrees from Western Governors University.

Isbell earned a

Bachelor of Science, Business Management while Brock earned his Master of Business Administration.

The online, nonprofit university held its commencement ceremonies this year to celebrate the graduation of more than 22,000 students from across the country.

To be named to the dean's list, undergraduates must attain a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.

Sjolund named to Samford University dean’s list

     Hannah Sjolund of Sewanee was among the 1,519 students named to the Samford University's 2019 spring semester Dean's List.

Sjolund is majoring in communication studies. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework.

Reese on dean’s list

Emily Reese of Huntland recently qualified for Belmont University's summer 2019 dean's list.

Eligibility for the summer session is based on a minimum nine-hour course load over 10 weeks and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
