The Franklin County Courthouse was closed about 9:30 a.m. on Friday because an employee had tested positive for COVID-19, according to County Mayor David Alexander.

He said the county has a response protocol in place that requires cleaning and disinfecting facilities if coronavirus cases are reported.

Alexander said the sanitizing process takes at least 24 hours, and plans are to have the Courthouse cleaned and disinfected during the weekend with plans to reopen for normal business hours on Monday.

However, he said companies that specialize in such cleaning procedures have been in high demand recently, and reopening depends on whether the work can be done during the weekend.
