Each October, Southern Tennessee Regional Health System and the Women’s Services department plan various activities to create awareness about breast cancer.
This year’s second annual “Cheers for the Girls” event is a partnered sponsorship with Treasures and will be held on Oct. 4 at 8 a.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
The guest speaker for the event is Jackie Axt, a follicular lymphoma Stage 4 survivor.
Axt is the owner of Southern Marine Associates, LLC. and RJAXT, LLC.
She has been fighting cancer since May 2017, and although this journey was unexpected, she said it has drawn her closer to her family, friends and God.
Axt will share her testimony accompanied by former Franklin County Mayor Richard Stewart. They will encourage and inspire attendees in their daily journey.
Axt has been happily married for 32 years and has two children, a daughter and a son-in law, and two beautiful grandchildren. The Axt’s reside in Estill Springs and have made Franklin County their home for the past 25 years. They attend Estill Springs United Methodist Church.
There is no charge for the event, although organizers are encouraging individuals to sponsor a breast cancer survivor for $25.
With the sponsorship, survivors will be recognized individually and presented with a medallion honoring their battle with breast cancer.
Sponsored medallions and “Cheers for the Girls” long-sleeve shirts will be sold for $25 and the orders can be placed at Treasures, located at 1307 Dinah Shore Blvd. in Winchester.
