Fun stuff

Now is a great time to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and scenery and get the entire family out for some healthy fun at nearby South Cumberland State Park and Tims Ford State Park.

Veterans Day color run/walk 5k

Please join in at Tims Ford State Park to show appreciation for America’s veterans while enjoying the fun and natural beauty of Tims Ford State Park during their Veterans Day color run/walk 5K on Monday from 2-5 p.m.

The park is partnering with local veterans groups and the Friends of Tims Ford to put on this family-friendly, fun event that will take participants through beautiful wooded areas near the lake, along many of the paved hiking trails of Tims Ford State Park.

Participants will find plenty of color stations and water points available along the trail to ensure enjoyment and safety.

All who register before Friday will receive a T-shirt along with a grab bag with fun items. When signing up, please register using your T-shirt size. Anyone needing a size not listed may call the park office at 931-962-1183 so a shirt can be ordered.

Cost is $25 for adults. Children ages 12 and younger are free but will not receive a T-shirt. Veterans should call the park office to register for a special rate and choose a T-shirt size. Late registration is $30 and T-shirts may not be available.

Meet at the park’s softball field, on Picnic Road inside Tims Ford State Park, 570 Tims Ford Dr., Winchester. Park Manager Shawn Settle can be reached by calling 931-968-3536 or 800-471-5295 or by emailing

Tims Ford Saturday Nite Pickin’

Everyone is welcome to come and play or just listen to some great music at Tims Ford State Park’s free Saturday Nite Pickin’, held indoors in the recreation building on Nov. 16 from 5:30-9 p.m.

Since 1993, a local core group of musicians have gathered at the Tims Ford State Park to play and enjoy music together. Started by Ranger David Watson and local bass player Rita Best, the success is contributed to keeping it simple and acoustic.

All ages are welcome to enjoy good music, coffee and snacks. Pass or play when the circle comes to you. Be a picker or a grinner.

For information, call Tims Ford State Park at 931-968-3536, 800-471-5295 or 931-962-1183.
