Four inmates in the Franklin County Jail were hospitalized early Wednesday after consuming an unidentified substance deemed to be contraband brought into the facility by other inmates, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Corrections personnel reported that unknown inmates are believed to have brought the substance into the jail, and the four who were hospitalized had ingested the contraband and went into medical distress, the release said.
Corrections officials notified emergency personnel, and the four inmates were transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System — Winchester for treatment.
Two inmates were treated and released back into custody while the other two remained for further treatment, reports said.
Reports said an investigation is continuing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
