Two Winchester residents were injured Friday night after being ejected from a Polaris RZR side-by-side during a rollover accident on Keith Springs Mountain.
The single-vehicle accident occurred on Iron Gap Road in Belvidere at around 10 p.m., authorities said.
According to Keith Springs Volunteer Fire Department Chief Sherman Steele, the vehicle had apparently successfully negotiated a curve on Iron Gap Road when the driver lost control.
The vehicle rolled, and both the driver and passenger were ejected during the rollover, Steele said.
According to first responders at the scene, neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts or helmets.
Due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the accident, one patient was airlifted by the Winchester-stationed Erlanger Life Force 5 helicopter to the Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, officials said.
The other patient was transported to the Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Winchester by an A&E Emergency Services Advanced Life Support ambulance where they were treated and released, authorities said.
Responding agencies included the Keith Springs Volunteer Fire Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, and A&E Emergency Services LLC.
