WHITE, Jean Laverne Gipson, age 80 of Decherd, passed away on Tuesday May 7, 2019, at her residence. Mrs. White was born on Jan. 7, 1939, to the late Charles Bert and Annie Estelle Church Gipson. She served in the United States Air Force for seven years, then spent 20 years working in Civil Service with the U.S. Federal Government before retiring. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Anglican Church in Smyrna. During her free time Jean enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crafts, studying ancestry and visiting with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her strong-willed and dedicated nature. In addition to her parents Mrs. White was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Gipson and Brent Gipson. She is survived by her children, Charles (Marie) White, of Windsor, North Carolina, Florence (Mike Burk) Bertrand of Huntsville, Alabama and Laura (Scott) Henley of Decherd; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Hollis Gipson of Decherd, Gloria Toney of Center, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Thursday May 9, 2019, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Kasch officiating. LAPPIN, Sarah Frances, age 89 of Sewanee, passed from this life on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at her daughter’s home. She was a native of Sewanee and a daughter of the late Tom Green and Gladys Mooney Green. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John W. McBee and William Lappin; sons, Clifford Larry McBee and Michael Gary McBee; sisters, Floy Caldwell, Sue Lappin and Charlsie Green; brothers, Jack, John and Richard Green; and grandson, Trenton Layne McBee. GIBSON, Doris Lynn Abbott, 81, of Estill Springs, departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga. Mrs. Gibson was born in Winchester to the late Francis Monroe Abbott and Cora Lee Brandon Abbott on April 13, 1938. She attended New Creation Church in Tullahoma. Mrs. Gibson was last employed as a seamstress at the former Lanier Clothing in Decherd. Her hobbies included making jewelry, sewing clothes for all of her family and fishing. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family at “family get-togethers.” In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Charles M. Abbott, Don Abbott and sisters, Frances Grammer, Betty Jo Hill, Velma Casteel and Eva Morris. She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Gibson of Estill Springs; sons, Christopher (Connie) Davis and Lee Gibson, both of Winchester and John (Amy) Gibson of Nunley; grandchildren, Jonathan Davis of Winchester and Crystal (Vincent) Sanders of Decherd; great-grandsons, Chase and Colt Sanders; sister, Jean Bass of Chicago, Illinois; and special friend, Shari Shearer of Estill Springs. HILL, George R., age 84 of Estill Springs, departed this life on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hill was born in Huntland on Dec. 20, 1934 to the late Lawrence Benjamin Hill and Ruby Bell Brewer Hill. Mr. Hill was employed for several years at Ford Motor Company in Illinois before he entered the U.S. Marine Corp. After honorably serving his country, he was discharged and returned to work at Ford Motor Company. His heart was in building and he was a carpenter by trade until his retirement. After his retirement his hobbies were fishing, hunting, woodworking and beekeeping. He was of the Church of God faith. Mr. Hill was a loving husband and loving and strict disciplinarian father. He loved spoiling his grandchildren. He will be remembered by many as a man who never complained about anything. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Wimbley Hill of Estill Springs, whom he would have been married to for 60 years on May 25, 2019. He is also survived by his daughter, Dianna Reillo of Hammond, Indiana; sons, Benjamin Robert Hill and wife, Rebecca of Estill Springs, Mark Hill of Tullahoma and fiancé Becky Horn of Normandy; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Archey Hill of Kankakee, Illinois; sisters, Margaret Hill of Westmoreland, Ivory Kelton of Ridgetop and Jewell Blankenship of Scottsville, Kentucky.
