Marguerite Gallagher

GALLAGHER, Marguerite Byrom, age 92, passed into the presence of her Savior on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021. She slipped away peacefully from her home in Crown Point, Indiana, with family by her side. Marguerite was known by all as a sweet and steady, calming presence. She will be greatly missed! Her quiet reserve was marked by steady dependability and genuine love to all whom knew her. She was a tireless worker, making home a beautiful place, fulfilling responsibilities in several office jobs, and always serving the Lord she loved in her church. Marguerite was born on Nov. 10, 1928, to Harvey Lee and Ruby Weaver Byrom. Although she moved many times for her Dad’s work and, later, her husband’s military career, Franklin County, Tennessee, was always “home.” In 2002, due to failing health, she and her husband, Pat moved to live with their daughter, Rose Shepherd, in northwest Indiana, leaving the rolling hills of Tennessee they loved. Marguerite brought joy to all her family in Indiana for 19 beautiful years. She was preceded in death by both parents; her only sibling, William Lee Byrom; her husband of 61 years, Edward Patrick Gallagher; and a well-loved nephew, Lee Byrom. She is survived by loving family: daughter, Rose (Sam) Shepherd, of Crown Point, Indiana; three grandchildren, Hannah (Ben) Carter of Merrillville, Indiana, Helen (Dan) Callaghan of Yuba City, California, and James (Christina) Shepherd of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania; one very beloved “adopted” granddaughter, Debbie Johnson, of Crown Point, Indiana; 10 great-grandchildren, Addie, Darren, Evan, Alana, Ashlyn, Donnie, Owen, Trent, Quincy, and Lincoln; niece, Brenda (Jerry) Farris of Franklin County, Tennessee; nephew, Mike Byrom, of Franklin County, Tennessee; and several great-nieces and great-nephews of whom she was very fond. The funeral service will be at Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W. Lincoln Highway, Crown Point, Indiana, on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at noon with a one-hour viewing prior to the service.
