Ruth Neal


 NEAL, Ruth Geraldine “Gerrye” Baker, age 85 of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2020. Gerrye was born on April 25, 1935, in Winchester, Tennessee, to the late Robert Murrell and Connie Lee (Fulmer) Baker. She spent most of her childhood in Harvey, Illinois, and in the early 1950’s, rode the train back to Tennessee where she graduated from Franklin County High School in 1953. In the same year she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth “Buddy” Neal. Gerrye started her banking career at Farmers Bank, followed by the Bank of Cowan, and retired in 2000 from Regions Bank as a teller. She enjoyed going to the Fiddlers Conventions, traveling the world with family and friends and collected spoons from each place she had been to. She was a faithful member of the Winchester Church of Christ since the 1970’s. She will be remembered by her family as a beautiful lady, with an angelic voice and a marvelous cook. In addition to her parents, Gerrye was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth “Buddy” Neal and siblings, Lynn Baker, Dorothy Frazor and Jimmy Baker. She is survived by her sons, Danny Neal and Todd (Janet) Neal, all of Winchester; grandson, Kenneth “Andy” Neal of Dayton, Ohio; siblings, Jackie Baker of Winchester, Joyce (Wayne) Grant of Chattanooga, and Gwynne (Sterling) Wilkinson of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Gerrye was held on Monday, June 29, 2020, from 5–8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Joseph Horton officiating. Interment was in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with family and friends serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Winchester Christian Academy, 1230 S. College St., Winchester, TN 37398.
