The Franklin County High School girls soccer team played the Siegel Stars to a 1-1 draw at home Thursday for their second tie of the season.
Franklin County was playing without several starters but was still able to keep pace and force a tie in the team’s final regular-season contest.
Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said he was happy with his team’s overall performance in the game.
“We had to move some pieces, but I thought they adjusted well and played hard. (Siegel’s) a good team so I was pleased for the most part,” he said.
The teams were scoreless through the end of the first half with Franklin County’s offensive opportunities being limited for most of the period.
The Stars would break the tie early in the second half to put Franklin County in a 1-0 hole.
However, Franklin County was awarded a penalty kick with about 11 minutes remaining in the contest, and Ella Masters converted the attempt for an equalizer. The goal was her 11th of the season.
The teams would remain deadlocked for the rest of the day as the game would ultimately end in a draw.
With the draw, Franklin County moved to 8-3-2 on the season.
The girls soccer team will next play Tuesday at home against Coffee County Central High School in a semifinal game for their district tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
