The Franklin County Middle girls soccer team beat the Coffee County Lady Raiders 1-0 on the road Wednesday for their sixth win of the season.

Franklin County got its second straight shutout win in dramatic fashion with a goal in the final minute breaking a stalemate and giving FC Middle the victory.

Franklin County’s offense had several good scoring opportunities throughout the first half, but Coffee County’s goalkeeper would continually turn them away.

The score was tied at 0-0 at halftime.

FC Middle head soccer coach Jacob Cashion said his team got off to a slow start in the second half, but they were able to pick up the pace in the last 10 minutes of the contest.

After a series of close misses on the goal, Gracen Baggett would break through for her eighth goal of the season with 25 seconds remaining to give Franklin County the lead and the win.

With the win, FC Middle improved to 6-1 on the season.

The girls soccer team will next play Wednesday at Lincoln County Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
