The North Middle School Gatorettes beat the Warren County Lady Pioneers 39-33 at Shelbyville Central High School Wednesday in a quarterfinal game for their conference tournament.
The Gatorettes led for the entire contest and held off a late rally to advance to the next round of the bracket.
The Gatorettes scored the first eight points of the contest to establish an early advantage on the scoreboard.
They led 8-2 after one quarter.
The Lady Pioneers went on an 8-0 run midway through the second quarter to tie the game, but the Gatorettes were able to jump back in front before the end of the half.
They led 16-12 at halftime.
The third quarter would be the most lopsided of the contest as the Gatorettes pushed their advantage up to double digits.
They led 30-18 going into the final period.
The Lady Pioneers cut the lead down to just three points in the final minute behind a barrage of 3-pointers, but the Gatorettes would ice the game with free throws in the closing seconds to win by six.
Hannah Campbell led the Gatorettes with 15 points for the game, followed by Lakaiyah Barnes with eight points, Baylor Russell and Aahna Carter with six points each and Grace O’Neil with four points.
With the win, the Gatorettes improved to 7-2 on the season.
They will next play Thursday against White County Middle School at Harris Middle School in a semifinal game for the Central Tennessee Conference tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
