The North Middle School Gatorettes lost to the Warren County Lady Pioneers 53-27 at Coffee County Middle School Saturday in the third-place game for their area tournament.
The third quarter would be the turning point of the contest as the Lady Pioneers turned a close game into a blowout with the Gatorettes settling for fourth place in the bracket.
The Lady Pioneers opened the game with a quick 9-3 run to take an early lead on the scoreboard. Mallory Cunningham scored six of North’s nine points in the opening period.
The Gatorettes trailed 9-3 after one quarter.
The Gatorettes limited their opposition to just three points in the second quarter, which allowed them take a slight lead before the end of the half.
They led 18-17 at halftime.
However, the Pioneers would not be stopped on offense in the third quarter as they put up 26 points to put the Gatorettes in a sizable hole.
The Gatorettes trailed 43-26 going into the final period.
The Gatorettes scored just one point in the fourth quarter with the Lady Pioneers giving them a loss by a final margin of 26 points.
Cunningham led the Gatorettes with 11 points for the game, followed by Judah Hill and Baylor Russell with four points each.
Emma Owens and Danica Stovall scored three points each, and Paris Majors scored two points.
With the loss, the Gatorettes moved to 7-11 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Stewarts Creek Middle School in a first-round game for their sectional tournament. The opponent for the game had not been announced at the time of writing. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
