The North Middle School Gators beat the Warren County Middle School Pioneers 28-6 at home Tuesday for their second win of the season.
The contest was close through the first half of play, but the Gators pulled away in the second half to pick up their second straight victory to start the year.
The lone touchdown for the Gators in the first half came on a long run from Eric Jones on fourth down. Jones then caught a pass from CJ Seals for the two-point conversion which gave the Gators an edge by the end of the half.
They led 8-6 at halftime.
The Gators began the second half with the ball, and they marched down the field to expand their lead. Their first drive in the second half ended in a run by Matthew Ratcliffe to make it 14-6.
The Gators also scored on their next two possessions to grow their lead out even further. Seals connected with Brody Mathis on a pass for one of the scores, and Jones got his second rushing touchdown of the day to round out the scoring.
The Pioneers were not able to move the ball much in the second half with Brayden Henley, Caiden Mears and Willie Cobb leading the defensive charge for North as the Gators went on to win by 22 points.
With the win, the Gators improved to 2-0 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at White County Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
