The North Middle School Gators lost to the Coffee County Raiders 28-24 on the road Thursday for their sixth loss of the season.
The contest was close throughout with the lead slipping away from the Gators in the fourth quarter as their record for the year moved back below .500.
Neither team was able to do much offensively early as the score was tied at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Gators pulled slightly ahead in the second quarter, but the Raiders continued to be just a few points behind. Willie Cobb scored eight of North’s 12 points in the first half.
They led 12-9 at halftime.
The teams remained even throughout the third quarter with the Gators holding onto their slight edge.
They led 19-16 going into the final period.
However, the Raiders saved their best offensive period for the end as they rallied past the Gators and handed them a four-point loss.
Cobb led the Gators with 11 points for the game, followed by Jacob Hardison with six points and Eric Jones with five.
Landon Presley scored two points.
With the loss, the Gators moved to 5-6 on the season.
They will next play Monday at West Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
