The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Community Vikings 90-54 at home Tuesday for their fifth loss of the season.
The Vikings scored early and often in the contest as the Hornets were not able to keep up in the blowout loss.
The Vikings set the tone for the day with 21 points in the opening period as the Hornets fell into an early hole.
They trailed 21-12 after one quarter.
The Hornets had more offensive production in the second quarter, but the Vikings remained a few steps ahead of them throughout the half.
They trailed 44-29 at halftime.
The Hornets had their best offensive period in the third quarter as they put up 18 points with the assistance of four 3-pointers. However, the Vikings counteracted that with a 26-point performance in the period to stretch the deficit past 20 points.
The Hornets trailed 70-47 going into the final period.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the fourth quarter as they took the loss by a final margin of 36 points.
Colton Ray led the Hornets with 17 points for the game, followed by Dylan Schultz and Garrett Jernigan with 10 points each.
Will Jolley scored eight points, Bryson Johnson scored seven and Eli Stevenson scored two.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 0-5 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at Giles County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
