The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Moore County Raiders 69-54 at home Friday for their 13th loss of the season.
While the Hornets kept the score close in the first half, a lengthy run by the Raiders in the third quarter would put the game out of reach.
The first quarter featured six lead changes with both trying to establish control of the scoreboard early.
The Hornets led 16-14 after one quarter.
The Raiders began the second quarter with a 13-2 run to take a decent lead, but the Hornets countered with a 10-3 run to make it a one-possession game again.
They trailed 30-28 at halftime.
The Raiders ended the third quarter with a 15-2 run to bring the lead up to double digits for the rest of the day.
The Hornets trailed 51-35 going into the final period.
The Hornets got their offense back on track in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to make up any ground as they lost by 15 points.
Colton Ray led the Hornets with 12 points for the game, followed by Will Jolley with 11 points and Dylan Schultz with 10.
Garret Jernigan scored seven points, Bryson Johnson scored six, Kaleb Stovall and Braylen Phillips scored three points each, and Eli Stevenson scored two points.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 5-13 on the season and 1-2 in district play.
They will next play Tuesday at Fayetteville City High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
