The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Community Vikings 85-34 on the road Wednesday for their seventh loss of the season.

The Vikings built an overwhelming lead early in the contest as the Hornets remained winless on the year with the blowout loss.

The Hornets briefly held a 7-5 lead in the game, but the Vikings ended the first quarter on a 30-4 run to create a massive deficit.

The Hornets trailed 35-11 after one quarter.

The Hornets didn’t allow as many points in the second quarter, but they were also not able to make up any ground.

They trailed 54-22 at halftime.

The Vikings completely pulled away in the third quarter as the Hornets were not able to keep pace with them on offense.

They trailed 81-31 going into the final period.

Both teams slowed down on offense in the fourth quarter as the Hornets took a loss by 51 points.

Dylan Schultz led the Hornets with 11 points for the game, followed by Bryson Johnson with eight points and Will Jolley with seven.

Garrett Jernigan scored four points, Micah Millraney scored three and Kaleb Stovall scored one.

With the loss, the Hornets moved to 0-7 on the season.

They will next play Friday at home against Riverside Christian Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
