The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Fayetteville Tigers 74-52 on the road Monday in a quarterfinal game for their district tournament.
The Hornets were outscored in each quarter as the Tigers steadily pulled away to eliminate them from the bracket.
The score was tied three times in the final minutes of the opening period with the Tigers ultimately taking an early lead.
The Hornets trailed 15-11 after one quarter.
The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 14-6 run to bring their early advantage up to double digits.
The Hornets trailed 34-24 at halftime.
The Hornets kept the score within a few possessions for most of the third quarter, but the Tigers scored 10 straight points in the last two minutes of the period to take control of the game.
Huntland trailed 51-34 going into the final period.
The deficit would stay at double digits for the remainder of the contest as the Hornets’ season came to an end with the 22-point loss.
Bryson Johnson and Will Jolley led the Hornets with 12 points each for the game, followed by Micah Millraney with 10 points.
Braylen Phillips scored seven points, Eli Wiggs scored six, James Miller scored three and Zeier Golden scored two.
With the loss, the Hornets ended their season with a record of 4-15.
