The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Cascade Champions 70-39 at home Tuesday for their 18th loss of the season.

The Hornets were outscored in every period as they took a blowout loss in their final regular-season district contest.

The Hornets were limited to just six points in the opening period to set the tone for the rest of the day. Bryson Johnson scored four of Huntland’s points in the first quarter.

They trailed 19-6 after one quarter.

The Champions ended the first half on a 16-3 run which would put them ahead by double digits for the remainder of the contest.

The Hornets trailed 41-19 at halftime.

The Hornets were continually not able to keep pace with the Champions as they fell further behind in the third quarter.

They trailed 57-27 going into the final period.

The Hornets were unable to cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter as they took a loss by 31 points.

Johnson led the Hornets with 13 points for the game, followed by Eli Stevenson with seven points and Colton Ray with six.

Dylan Schultz scored four points, and Will Jolley, Braylen Phillips and Micah Millraney scored three points each.

With the loss, the Hornets moved to 7-18 on the season and 3-7 in district play.

They will next play Thursday at home against Whitwell High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
