The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Eagleville Eagles 76-53 on the road Tuesday for their sixth loss of the season.
The Hornets were outscored in each quarter as the Eagles steadily pulled away to give them their first loss in district competition.
Both offenses got off to strong starts with the Eagles creating an early advantage in the opening period.
The Hornets trailed 23-15 after one quarter.
The Hornets were able to keep pace with their opponent throughout the second quarter, but they were not able to make up any ground.
They trailed 40-30 at halftime.
The Hornets remained a step behind in the third quarter as they went into the final period facing a 55-44 deficit.
The fourth quarter would be the most decisive of the day as the Eagles more than doubled their lead to beat the Hornets by 23.
Braylen Phillips led the Hornets with 14 points for the game, followed by Bryson Johnson with 13 points and Will Jolley with 12.
Micah Millraney scored six points, Eli Wiggs scored four, and Noah Thompson and Zeier Golden scored two points each.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in district play.
They will next play Friday at Moore County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
