The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Clarkrange Buffalos 82-74 in overtime at Whitwell High School Tuesday in a consolation semifinal game for the Whitwell Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Hornets rallied from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and pulled away in the extra period to advance to the third-place game for the bracket.

The teams traded the lead multiple times in the opening period with the Hornets holding onto a slight 18-17 edge when the first quarter ended.

The Buffalos ended the second quarter with a 9-0 run to bring the deficit up to double digits as the first half came to a close.

The Hornets trailed 35-25 at halftime.

The deficit would stay at double digits for most of the third quarter as the Hornets were not able to make up much ground in the period.

They trailed 52-41 going into the final period.

The Hornets slowly chipped away at the lead with a 3-pointer from Braylen Phillips tying the score at 59-59 late in the fourth quarter. After trading the lead a few more times, the teams would go into overtime with the score tied at 69-69.

The Hornets never trailed in overtime as they took the lead early in the extra frame and scored the last six points of the period to secure the win by eight.

Phillips led the Hornets with 28 points for the game, followed by Noah Thompson with 26 points and Zeier Golden with 17.

Trace Kilpatrick scored 10 points and Cade Limbaugh scored one.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 2-2 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday against Rhea County High School at Whitwell in the third-place game for the Whitwell Thanskgiving Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
