The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Grundy County Yellowjackets 5-4 at home Wednesday for their first win of the season.

The Hornets scored all of their runs in the fourth inning to overcome an early 4-0 deficit and get the victory.

The Yellowjackets put up two runs in the top of the second and added another two runs in the third to put the Hornets in an early hole.

Micah Millraney got the Hornets on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to make it 4-1. Grant Jernigan came to score on an error late in the frame to make it a two-run game.

Dylan Schultz kept the offensive momentum going with a one-out single that brought in another run. Eli Wiggs then stepped off the bench and got a two-run single as a pinch hitter to give the Hornets a 5-4 advantage.

The Yellowjackets got the potential tying run to third base in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Hornets were able to strand the runners both times.

Schultz then retired the Yellowjackets in order in the final inning to secure the one-run victory.

Schultz got the win in relief for the Hornets with four shutout innings where he allowed two total hits.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 1-1 on the season.

They will next play Thursday on the road against the Huntsville Falcons. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
