The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Cascade High School Lady Champions 49-24 on the road Friday for their eighth loss of the season.

A big run by the Lady Champions in the third quarter sealed the loss for the Lady Hornets as they took their first district defeat of the campaign.

The Lady Hornets started the game off well with a 7-0 run to end the first quarter putting them in front by a decent amount.

They led 11-4 after one quarter.

The Lady Champions took the lead for the first time late in the second quarter as they were able to slow the offense of the Lady Hornets.

The Lady Hornets trailed 20-17 at halftime.

The Lady Champions scored the first 16 points of the third quarter to transform the game from a close contest into a rout.

The Lady Hornets trailed 42-22 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets were not able to get their offense going at all in the fourth quarter as they were limited to two points for the period and lost by 25 points.

AJ Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 10 points for the game, followed by Savannah Foster with seven points and Brooklyn Morris with four.

Mikaylie Edwards scored two points and Camille Bland scored one.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 12-8 on the season and 2-1 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at Moore County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
