The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 2-1 on the road Wednesday for their ninth win of the season.
Both teams turned in strong pitching performance with the Lady Hornets taking the lead in the middle innings and holding on to secure their eighth straight victory.
The Lady Hornets loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third, but a double play and a groundout would end the scoring threat.
The Lady Hornets would again load the bases with nobody out in the next inning, and Hannah Daniel then got hit by a pitch to bring in the first run of the day. Bailey Morris followed that with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game in the fourth inning.
The Lady Bulldogs also did all of their scoring in the fourth inning as they capitalized on a few errors to push a run across and cut the lead in half.
The Lady Bulldogs got the potential tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out double, but Huntland pitcher Ashtyn Danley struck out the next two batters to clinch the win.
Ashtyn Danley pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets as she struck out nine batters while allowing three hits and one unearned run.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 9-1 on the season and 3-1 in district play.
They will next play Monday at Eagleville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
