The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cascade Lady Champions 72-53 on the road Friday for their 15th win of the season.

After three close quarters, the Lady Hornets dominated in the final period to extend their winning streak to eight games and to remain unbeaten in district play for the season.

The first quarter featured four lead changes with a 3-point play by Ashtyn Danley late in the period giving the Lady Hornets the early edge.

They led 19-18 after one quarter.

The teams continued to trade the lead throughout the second quarter with the Lady Hornets again having the final points of the period after a basket by Anna Stevenson.

They led 31-30 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets remained in control of the lead for the entirety of the third quarter, but the Lady Champions continued to lurk a few possession behind.

The Lady Hornets led 49-43 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets completely outplayed their opposition in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 23-10 for the period. A 12-0 run by the Lady Hornets midway through the quarter would seal the victory as they won by 19 points.

Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 27 points for the game, followed by Danley with 19 points and Brooklyn Morris with nine.

Mikaylie Edwards scored eight points, Logan McLennan scored seven and Megan Tipps scored two.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 15-7 on the season and 5-0 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Cornersville High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
