The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Marshall County Tigerettes 5-0 on the road Tuesday for their 10th win of the season.

The Lady Hornets pulled away early in the game with four goals in the first half and kept their lead steady after halftime to get the victory.

Huntland head soccer coach Amanda Tipps said she wasn’t happy with some sloppy play in the first 20 minutes of the game, but she added that her team was able to clean things up, put the other team away and allow the backups on the Lady Hornets to get some playing time late.

Hazel Reed gave the Lady Hornets an early lead as she scored three minutes into the game off of a pass from Logan McLennan.

The Lady Hornets would score again about 10 minutes later with Piper Cox knocking the ball into the net after receiving a cross from McLennan. The goal was her eighth of the season.

Sade Tablas would be the next Huntland player to score as a pass from Alyvia Callaway set up her second goal of the year to make it a 3-0 game.

The last score of the first half would come off of the feet of Hazel Reed as she netted her second goal of the day and her 15th of the season after receiving a through ball from Kelly Mejia.

The Lady Hornets led 4-0 at halftime.

McLennan would get the lone goal of the second half for either team as she fired a shot into the net for her 10th score of the campaign.

The Lady Hornets were able to hold the Tigerettes off of the board for the rest of the game as they got their third shutout victory of the season.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 10-1-2 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Fayetteville City High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
