The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Sparkman Lady Senators 18-3 in Fayetteville Saturday in their fourth and final game for the Lincoln County Border Battle.

The Lady Senators scored the first nine runs of the game and fully pulled away with a nine-run fifth inning to give the Lady Hornets a blowout loss.

The Lady Senators got their first run on the board in the top of the first inning, and they added another six runs in the top of the second and two runs in the third to make it a 9-0 game early.

The Lady Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Jocy May came through with a two-out, two-run single to put the deficit at 9-2.

However, the Lady Senators sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth and scored nine runs to make it a 16-run game. The scoring outburst included two home runs, and seven of the runs were scored with two outs in the frame.

The Lady Hornets got one more run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Mattie Danley before losing by a final margin of 15 runs.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 11-5 on the season.

Lady Hornets 13, Millington 3

The Lady Hornets beat the Millington Central Lady Trojans 13-3 in Fayetteville earlier in the day on Saturday in their third game for the Lincoln County Border Battle.

The Lady Hornets hit five home runs in the contest as the long ball powered them to an easy victory to start the day.

The Lady Hornets scored four runs before their first out was recorded as Shaleigh Garner led off the bottom of the first with a double and Hadley Gardner, Danley and Ryley Brannon followed with three straight home runs.

Olivia Smith added an RBI single later in the frame to make it a 5-0 game.

The Lady Hornets continued their offensive onslaught in the second inning as Gardner hit her second home run of the day for two runs, and May hit a grand slam to bring the lead up to double digits.

Additional runs were scored in the inning on an RBI single by Megan Tipps and an RBI groundout from Blair Finchum to put the lead at 13-0.

The Lady Trojans got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, but the Lady Hornets stayed ahead by double digits before ultimately winning by 10.

Deanna Burton got the win on the mound for the Lady Hornets as she pitched four innings with seven strikeouts, two hits and two runs allowed.

Bailey Morris pitched the last inning with one strikeout, three hits and one run allowed for the contest.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 11-4 on the season.

They will next play Monday in a doubleheader at home against Fayetteville City High School. First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
