The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cascade Lady Champions 59-51 at home Tuesday for their 20th win of the season.

The Lady Hornets led for an overwhelming majority of the contest and held off a late push from the Lady Champions to put their final district record for the regular season at a perfect 10-0.

The Lady Champions kept the score close for most of the first quarter and briefly held a 3-2 lead, but the Lady Hornets began to steadily pull away. Anna Stevenson scored six of Huntland’s 16 points in the opening period.

They led 16-8 after one quarter.

The Lady Hornets opened the second quarter with a quick 9-0 run. However, the Lady Champions responded with a 13-2 run to tighten up the scoreboard again.

A 3-pointer by Stevenson in the final seconds of the first half would give the Lady Hornets a bit more cushion at the end of the period.

They led 34-23 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets maintained a steady lead throughout the third quarter as they stayed ahead by at least eight points throughout the period.

They led 47-39 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets never let the lead go lower than seven points throughout the fourth quarter as they held on to win by eight.

Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 27 points for the game, followed by Brooklyn Morris with 15 points and Logan McLennan with eight.

Maddux Golden scored six points and Mikaylie Edwards scored three.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 20-7 on the season and 10-0 in district play.

They will next play Thursday at home against Whitwell High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
