The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Community Viqueens 54-40 at home Tuesday for their third win of the season.

The Lady Hornets built an early lead and maintained it throughout the second half to grab a home victory.

The Lady Hornets allowed just five points in the opening quarter as they quickly built a lead on the scoreboard.

They led 14-5 after one quarter.

The Viqueens got their offense going in the second quarter, but the Lady Hornets remained a step or two ahead of their offensive pace.

They led 30-17 at halftime.

The teams were completely even on offense in the third quarter, which benefitted the Lady Hornets as they maintained their double-digit lead.

They led 41-28 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets did not give up any ground in the fourth quarter as they went on to win by 14 points.

Anna Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 15 points for the game, followed by Ashtyn Danley with 10 points and Brooklyn Morris with nine.

Mikaylie Edwards scored eight points, Logan McLennan scored four, Megan Tipps scored three, Maddux Golden and Tori Schultz scored two points each, and Camille Bland scored one point.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 3-4 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at Giles County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
